Raices con Alas
Carolina Perdomo (a Colombian) is a literacy specialist. She was one of my students and then on my teaching staff at CILTA in Lima, Peru. She has since worked in Colombia, Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, and Peru. Carolina is a gifted teacher and consultant of literacy methods and materials as well as other topics in reading education. Her most recent project was in Venezuela, helping a Venezuelan team working in Yukpa to develop early reading materials and Bible study materials for the newly translated book of Mark.
Currently Carolina is home in Colombia, planning a teacher training workshop for the Koreguaje communities. Southern Colombia is home to approximately 2,200 Koreguaje speakers. The goals for the workshop are (1) to do the final prepublication checking of her initial reading books in Koreguaje and (2) to prepare Koreguaje teachers to present the lessons successfully. Together with Sandra, another CILTA-trained literacy specialist, Carolina will spend several weeks in a Koreguaje community with the teachers and leaders. Upon completing the Koreguaje project, she hopes to return to Venezuela and continue her literacy efforts with the Yukpa.
